Arbor Day Tree Planting
Since 2023, Habitat Builders has partnered with NCSU Forestry to plant trees at local west side elementary schools. The event offers a presentation and discussion about the importance of trees, followed up with a walk outside to plant two trees near the playground. Union County's Urban Forester, Keith O'Herrin provides the education portion of the event and pine tree seedlings for every student and Habitat Builder volunteers and Forestry staff provide the tree planting portion of the event. Habitat Builders also provides the trees from donations from our wonderful members.

We are planning now for 2025 and plan to plant trees at 8 elementary schools.
Would you like to help? We are always looking for people to help us plant the trees. Don't worry the planting holes are dug (actually with an auger!) by the school landscape maintenance staff. It's a fun, relatively easy assignment. The events usually happen in the morning, during the week. We will post volunteer dates and times soon. If you are interested in participating in this program contact us here.
Funding this event is extremely important. So if you can't join us to plant trees, can you donate money to purchase the trees? A $100 donation purchases one tree, plus mulch. For $200, you help us purchase two trees and fund the Arbor Day program for one elementary school. $1600 covers the cost of the entire 2025 program for 8 elementary schools. If we raise more, we will be able to help more schools. If you are interested in funding the Arbor Day program in any way contact us here. Every dollar helps!
