Invasive plants are plants that are not native to our area, do not support native wildlife and are very aggressive. This means that invasive plants push out more wildlife supportive plants and can take over natural areas. Nandina, Privet, Monkey Grass and Autumn/Russian olive are common invasive plants that have escaped residential landscapes and are taking over natural areas. These particular plants are still available for sale. More information about invasive plants coming soon here.

Habitat Builders hosts several volunteer events throughout the winter months to remove invasive plants from common areas. It's the first step to building habitat. When you join us for these events you will learn to recognize some of our common invasive species, learn how to remove them from the landscape and why this work is so important. We will provide tools if they are needed, but feel free to bring pruners, shovels or a mattock. Be prepared for cool weather and mud, you will get dirty. We will provide some gloves, but it's always better to bring your own gardening gloves or leather gloves (or both). Our events last 2 hours, but feel free to drop in and out as needed. Every plant removed makes a difference.

These are great events for families. We don't have an age limit, but it's probably better for people 8 years old and older. Our Invasive Plant Removal events usually occur during the weekend December-February.
